Have you heard about Wordle yet?

Wordle is a free program where you upload “word clouds” of text.  Check out the site and you will see some great examples.  It is simple and you don’t need to sign up to anything before you begin.

Test Taking Skills Wordle

wordle

Simple Wordle Tips

  • Insert words into box
  • If you want a word to be larger then the rest, write it a few times
  • If you want words to stay together, use the ~ key, which is located above the tab key.  (make sure you hold the shift key down)
  • Spend some time playing with color and layout

The text I used

Multiple~Choice, True~False, Matching, Short~Answer, Problem~Solving, Essay, Open~Book, Take~Home

Test, test, test, test, test, test, test

Study activities using Wordle

  • Vocabulary List:  Put a list of words you need to learn in wordle.  Print it out and use this as a prompt to remember definitions
  • Main Headings:  Put a list of headings and subheadings into wordle.  Use this as a prompt to see what you can remember

Why this works?

Wordle is a great tool to summarize key information.  You eyes and brain will focus more intently on the word clouds because it is colorful and unusual and certainly doesn’t look like your other notes.  It would be great if you could combine Wordle notes with Mind Maps and the usual Cornell Notes.  Then you would certainly be using both sides of your brain to study and revise for the test.

I absolutely love Wordle! I first read about it on teachhub.com. TeachHUB featured it as one of it’s top teacher recommended websites. Great minds think alike! :)
