A SWOT Analysis is a tool you can use to assess how well you have be using the study skills I teach on this site. It is an opportunity to work out what you do really well and find out where you need to improve. I wanted you to start thinking about this topic in last weeks post: It’s time to change those Study Habits
Sit down, grab a piece of paper and make a table like this one
| Strengths | Weaknesses |
| Opportunities | Threats |
Now, look at the questions below and write any ideas or answers in the correct box. You need to reflect on your organizational skills, homework, assignments and exam preparation.
Look at your strengths
- What do you do really well?
- What part of study skills is really easy?
- Is there something your teachers or parents praise you about?
Think about your weaknesses
- What part of study skills is really hard for you?
- What do you procrastinate about the most?
What are your opportunities?
- What study skill do you think you could improve on?
- Who could help you with the study skills?
Meet your threats head on.
- Why are you having difficulty with study skills?
- What changes do you need to make to your home, school or friends to make it easier to study.
Study Skills SWOT Analysis
Take some time and take a look at the chart you have created. If you are doing really well then you will have more comments in the Strengths column. If that is not the case, then take a look at my tips below:
- Check out your Opportunities: The statements you made here are what you can improve on straight away. Take a look at them and formulate a plan of action.
- Eliminate one Threat: Look at the threat column. I want you to choose one statement and work out a way to eliminate that threat.
- Tackle one Weakness: Pick one weakness that you really want to change. Use the tool bar on the bottom of the page and see if I have given any hints on how to improve in that study area. If I haven’t written about the topic, let me know in the comments section below and I will see what I can do.
Use this Study Skills technique to get motivated and back on track.
