It is always a good idea to proofread your work. Obvious isn’t it. I am sure you do this, or get someone else to check your assignments but do you ever proofread your work during exams. All your great study habits will be all to waste if you don’t do your very best work in the exam.
The top reasons why you should proofread in exams.
- You will be spending time checking punctuation and grammar.
- You will be checking spelling.
- Your answers will become easier to read.
- You will get better marks.
Proofreading Routine for Exams
- Use the last 5 minutes to check spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Make sure every sentence for every answer starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop.
- Check ‘text speak’. Make sure you haven’t used any short hand words such as gr8. (trust me – teachers see this all the time)
- All key words and vocabulary for this topic should be spelt correctly. Scan your answers and find any of these words you think are spelt incorrectly. Then scan the question paper and see if the same words are written down. Make sure you spell all these correctly
- Front Page – Make sure you have spelt your teachers name correctly.
One final thought: Spend some time learning key words before the test.
