The Night Before the First Day of School

in Back To School

For most Australian students, tomorrow is the first day of the new school year.   How are you all feeling?  Excited!  Worried!  Can’t be bothered!

I must admit that I was always excited about the Night Before the First Day of School.  You see, I am a very sound sleeper, can get to sleep easily and it is hard to stir me during the night.  But those nights before the first day of school made me restless.  I couldn’t sleep and spent all night dreaming about the year ahead.  I wondered what teachers I would have, the friends I would make.

It was like Christmas Eve all over again.  Silly, heh!

What are you hopes for this school year?

Think about each heading for a moment and decide what you want to achieve?

  • Academics
  • Sports
  • Cultural (music / clubs)
  • Friendship
  • Study Skills

 My Hopes for you

Like all teachers I wish you the very best.  Good Luck tomorrow and for the rest of the year.  Here are my hopes for you this year:

  • That you take one day at a time:  Learn from today and be better tomorrow
  • That you realise that you can be better:  Academics, behaviour, sports, friendship
  • That you see yourself as part of a team:  School and the teachers, counsellors and students are all there to help (look carefully though, don’t be made a fool by those who want to fool you)
  • That you take notice of your individual gifts and strengths:  Be strong, be proud

Enjoy yourself.  It’s just school.
