in Teaching Study Skills

Here is a new acronym that you can use to teach study skills.  In a previous post I gave the example of LEAN which can be used to teach students good listening skills.

Study Skills Strategies help students stay organized and on top of their work.  Today I am going to teach you MARKER.  This acronym will help you plan and organize assignments.

M – Make a list of goals, set the order, set the date

A – Arrange a plan for each goal and predict your success

R – Run your plan for each goal and adjust if necessary

K – Keep records of your progress

E – Evaluate your progress toward each goal

R – Reward yourself when you reach a new goal, and set a new goal

This is a really simple strategy that you could teach using the Strategic Instruction Model.  You could also make posters and handouts that could also be placed in students study folders.
