Have you seen it yet? Go one, go take a peak! Check out the Flash Mob Dance. I won’t tell anyone.
Isn’t it cool! I watch it every day. It is the way I get myself ready and motivated to do some work on this blog.
Motivate yourself to study effectively
Think about those first few minutes before you start doing your homework, assignments or exam revision. What do you do? I bet most of you just plop yourself down in front of the computer and start your work. Then a few minutes later, you get up and look for a book you need. Then after that you mind starts to wander. And before you know it you are at a random game site playing a mindless game.
There are 2 problems with that common scenario:
- You didn’t give yourself a signal to start work
- You weren’t prepared
You need a signal to tell yourself “I’m ready to study”
Your mind needs to be told that you are ready to start your homework, assignments and exam revision. So you need to think of a strategy that tells yourself to stop thinking about everything else, and just be focussed on studying. It isn’t a silly strategy, and you can see many examples of this strategy:
- Football Games – many teams play motivational song, say prayers, chant cheers before a game
- Grace – A blessing of food, as well as a signal that you are sitting at a meal with family and friends
- TV – opening credits of a TV show are a way to signal that a new show is starting and motivating you to sit down and watch
You need to be prepared
You also need to be prepared before you start studying. If you are prepared, you are telling yourself that you are serious about the work and you want to do your best. Think about it! Say you were at hospital, ready to have an operation, and the doctor wasn’t prepared. You would be very nervous and wouldn’t trust them. The same applies to you. Your mind won’t let you study effectively if it doesn’t think you are serious about studying.
Find your own motivation
Now over to you! Go through all your songs, check out YouTube. I want you to find a great song that you can listen to, and would want to listen to everyday. It needs to be powerful, with a thumping beat and strong message. Remember it is only one song, not an entire collection.
Everyday be organized and motivated!
Before you start a study session make sure you do the following:
- All books and equipment ready
- Study Folder in front of you
- Daily Routine filled in
- Pumping music ready to play
Then start!
I would love to hear what songs you picked! Post the name of the song or YouTube video in the comments section below.
