Types of Homework

in Homework

The US Dept Of Education in May 2003 created a brochure for parents on Homework Tips for Parents.  What I found really useful in the PDF document was a description of the different types of homework.

Practice Homework

This is homework that helps reinforce skills learnt at school.  It normally includes drill work and lots of exercises.  Examples would include maths questions, french vocabulary, or learning spelling words.

Preparation Homework.

This is homework you need to do before your next class, usually on a new topic.  An example of this would be “Read Chapter 2 and we will discuss it tomorrow”

Extension Homework.

This type of homework asks you to use the information in class in a different way.  Examples would include designing a poster or writing an essay.

Integration Homework

This is project type homework and can include assignments.

Can you relate to all these types of homework?  Which type of homework do you get the most?  Let me know in the comment section below.
