Take a deep breath before you scan the post.
Make it two.
This post is long because I want to explain in detail what you need to do every day when you sit down to study.
My definition of Study
Study is everything you do at home that is related to your school work. Specifically it involves 3 tasks: homework, assignments and exam revision.
You need to be doing all 3 tasks every night.
Daily Routine
I am suggesting that you follow my Daily Routine. Please download the document called ”Daily Routine” under Study Tools. When you first scan the routine you will be worried. It does look long. However, many of the tasks will take less than a minute to complete. This is a sequential routine where you work from top to bottom. Don’t skip any steps.
Let’s go through each section in more detail.
Start-up: Six simple tasks to remind you to be organized before you start studying.
Daily Job: This is a task designed for every day of the week. You will find out your daily job on Day 8. It will be only simple job that will make your life easier.
Homework: You don’t need to write your homework in this space. It is just there to remind you when to do your homework.
Assignments: This is where you will write steps to completing assignments. This will be discussed in more detail on Days 15-21. Until Day 15 I would make a note of any assignment work you are to do in the left column under ‘assignments’
Revision: This is where we will write steps in regards to exam revision. This will be discussed in more detail on Days 22-27. Until Day 22 I would make a note of any assignment work you are to do in the left column under ‘revision’
Tasks
- Make a new section in your Study Folder called “Daily Routine”
- Print out a few ‘spare’ copies and file in Study Folder in case your printer breaks
- Print out “Daily Routine” and fill it in tonight
- After you finish a task, highlight it. This is to show you what tasks you have completed. This will then be a visual reminder of what you have completed and what you need to do tomorrow night.
- File this copy in your Study Folder.
Final Note
Many of you will be wondering why you need to write this all down. Expecially when it will take a while to understand and follow the routine correctly in the beginning. Here is why:
- You are more likely to complete a task that is written down
- Your tasks are now ordered and more organized. That makes the jobs easier to complete
- You will learn the benefits of breaking up assignments and exams into more manageable tasks, that are easier to complete
- You will be showing your parents that you are committed to be more organized.
