Day 24: Understand the 3 types of study

September 4, 2009

in Revision / Studying

I believe there are 3 ways you should study for exams:  note-taking, remembering and cramming.  Take a look at your daily routine.  There is a place for revision on that sheet.  It is a reminder that it is better to complete some revision every night.

I know you don’t believe me.  The idea that you should do some study every night will take time.  That is ok.  I am here for the long haul.  It will take a while to develop these strategies.  For now, I will just explain the 3 types of study.

Note-taking

Note-taking involves collating your school work and homework and summarising any text book material.

Remembering

This involves reciting, revising and remembering your notes.

Cramming

This is what you do the night before.  It can be effective as final revision if you have completed the first two tasks.

It is more beneficial for you if you do some study every night.  Here is why:

  • Notes are easier to understand
  • You will be reinforcing and remembering what you have been taught
  • It will take less time
  • You will be less stressed

Trust me.
