Day 17: Understand assignment phases

August 19, 2009

in Assignments

How do you do your assignment?  Do you look up Wikipedia, copy and paste some comments, make it into an essay and hand it in?

Hopefully that isn’t the case.  And I am here to show you that whilst assignments do take time, you can achieve your best result when you put in the effort.

Assignment Phases

I believe there are four assignment phasesplanning, researching, writing and checking.

Planning Phase

  • Understand / Read Criteria Sheet
  • Organize yourself (See Day 16 for more detail)
  • Set out plan of attack (See tomorrow for more detail)

This should be completed on the first night.

Research Phase

  • Take notes for assignment
  • Write bibliography as you go

This should take 40% of your time

Writing Phase

  • Create plan – organise your headings or topic sentences
  • Write the assignment

This should take 40% of your time

Checking Phase

  • Proofreading
  • Editing
  • Check again against Criteria sheet

This should take 20% of your time

We will go into each phase in more detail once the 30 Day Study System is complete.
